Our Purpose and Mission
Original T-Bag Designs is a pioneering social enterprise committed to transforming lives and the environment. Founded in 1999, we empower local artisans from the Hout Bay townships by providing employment opportunities and fostering creativity through the art of recycled teabags. Our mission is to create sustainable, world-class handmade products that not only beautify homes but also contribute to environmental conservation. By turning used teabags into unique works of art, we aim to reduce urban waste and promote a culture of sustainability, while supporting the economic development of our community.

Tracking Our Progress

Employment Growth
Since reopening post COVID-19, we’ve employed and trained over 30 people, providing stable jobs to over 30 artisans and production assistants from the Hout Bay township community. Most have moved on to higher level employment roles in and outside our initiative
Since 2021
Waste Reduction
Our innovative and creative recycling processes have diverted over +/- 7000 used tea bags per month of waste from landfills, transforming used teabags into beautiful functional art pieces.
